چکیده

Abstract The main target of this paper is to improve the knowledge species composition sea stars in Patagonian Argentine deep reaching depths 2062 m. In addition, these results offer us opportunity analyze possible connections between Argentinian marine fauna and adjacent Antarctic areas that have become a topic interest past few years. This work based on Atlantic Projects’ surveys carried out an atypical especially vulnerable ecosystems (canyons created from craters collapse by gas leaks). These are profusely impacted frequent fishing activities, being one most important international grounds, where 887 records (1878 specimens) 41 asteroids were collected 217 stations ranging 219 m depth. Seven those proposed as new records: ( Diplasterias octoradiata (Studer 1885), Plutonaster bifrons (Wyville Thomson, 1873), Radiaster elegans Perrier, 1881, Anseropoda antarctica Fisher, 1940, Pillsburiaster calvus Mah, 2011, Paralophaster lorioli (Koehler, 1907), Pteraster flabellifer Mortensen 1933). After refining database built literature open-access databases such OBIS AntBIF, deep-water checklist contains 2198 64 including 7 proposed. Most (89.06%) present Antarctic-adjacent waters, after study their occurrences at traditional biogeographic entities, our support hypothesis waters (in case class Asteroidea) should be considered part sub-Antarctic entity.

Trophic ecology of deep-sea Asteroidea (Echinodermata) from eastern Canada

Asteroids (sea stars) can be important predators in benthic communities and are often present in ecologically important and vulnerable deep-sea coral and sponge habitats. However, explicit studies on the trophic ecology of deep-sea asteroids are rare. We investigated the diets of seven species of deep-sea asteroid from the bathyal zone of Newfoundland and Labrador, eastern Canada. A multifacete...

Antarctic Starfish (Echinodermata, Asteroidea) from the ANDEEP3 expedition

This dataset includes information on sea stars collected during the ANDEEP3 expedition, which took place in 2005. The expedition focused on deep-sea stations in the Powell Basin and Weddell Sea.Sea stars were collected using an Agassiz trawl (3m, mesh-size 500µm), deployed in 16 stations during the ANTXXII/3 (ANDEEP3, PS72) expedition of the RV Polarstern. Sampling depth ranged from 1047 to 493...

Conquered from the Deep Sea? A New Deep-Sea Isopod Species from the Antarctic Shelf Shows Pattern of Recent Colonization

The Amundsen Sea, Antarctica, is amongst the most rapidly changing environments of the world. Its benthic inhabitants are barely known and the BIOPEARL 2 project was one of the first to biologically explore this region. Collected during this expedition, Macrostylis roaldi sp. nov. is described as the first isopod discovered on the Amundsen-Sea shelf. Amongst many characteristic features, the mo...

Oceanographic conditions and diversity of sea stars (Echinodermata: Asteroidea) in the Gulf of California, México.

Species richness is one of the best indicators of biodiversity. However, there are few investigations on concordance of diversity patterns and environmental settings for marine regions. The objectives of this study were to correlate species richness of shallow water (< 200 m deep) sea stars with key oceanographic factors in the Gulf of California, México, and to predict species richness of Aste...
